Art Gallery Winter - Spring 2010 Internship Position
Chelsea gallery specializing in American and Asian contemporary painting is looking for a qualified candidate to start immediately. Please read carefully, and please do not apply to this position if you do not meet our qualifications below—
This is an internship position to start immediately and will continue throughout the winter-spring 2010 semester. Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 11:00pm-6:00pm.
The candidate should be able to Speak, Write, and Read Asian language, preferably Japanese and knowledge of InDesign(CS2-) and Photoshop.
This position is perfect for recent BFA graduates and current students. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual seriously interested in pursuing a career in the contemporary art field. The intern will be assisting with many aspects of administration, curatorial, art handling, and other miscellaneous gallery activities. You will also be involved in correspondences with artists in terms of working out show details, translation may be necessary. You will gain a lot of practical knowledge and a firm understanding of how a gallery is run.
A desirable candidate will possess:
* Excellent communication and writing skills
* Design software skills - InDesign and Photoshop
* Japanese/Korean/Chinese(Mandarin) speaking REQUIRED
* Prior experience in an art or business related field helpful
* Computer literacy - Mac OS10 especially helpful
* Initiative, and ability to work efficiently and independently
* A passion for learning the gallery business and for the arts
